While in New York our students hopped on the Circle Line ferry at Battery Park to get a close up look at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. A visit to Ground Zero and St. Paul’s Cathedral was a real life reminder of the sad day in history that happened right in their own lifetime. Students were awed by the night time view from the top of the Empire State Building (“the most amazing view I have ever seen”), and Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. Finally, our students were treated to an awards ceremony, dinner and entertainment at Medieval Times Restaurant before heading back to Virginia to enjoy the rest of their spring break.
The WHS guitar students did an outstanding job representing our school!
WESTFIELD TO HOST MID-ATLANTIC GUITAR ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL
For the second year in a row Westfield High School will host the Mid-Atlantic Guitar Ensemble Festival on Saturday, April 26 in the Auditorium. Musicians from Fairfax County Public Schools will perform before a panel of expert guitar clinicians. The clinicians spend time with each group to offer constructive criticism about their performances.
The Westfield Jazz Guitar Ensemble will perform at 8:35 a.m. and the Bulldog Guitar Ensemble will perform at 2:55 p.m. There will be a mid-day concert at 12:40 featuring classical guitarist National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Michael Chapdelaine
In addition to the performances, students will have the opportunity to attend workshops in flamenco, jazz/fusion, guitar maintenance, The Healthy Guitarist: Integrating technique, health and body awareness, and "What You Need to Know To Be a Professional Guitarist". Representatives from George Mason University, James Madison University and Radford University will be in attendance as will vendors Kirkpatrick Guitar Studios and Melodee Music
