Announcement from Ken Hall

31 WHS Guitar students just returned from the Fiesta-Val Music Competition in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Fifteen schools drawn from the east coast and beyond were involved in this competition.  The Westfield Guitar Octet earned a Superior rating, (the highest possible) and garnered a first place win.  The Westfield Concert Guitar Ensemble likewise earned a Superior rating, and garnered a second place win.  The Westfield Jazz Guitar Ensemble also earned a Superior rating and garnered a second place win.  It should be noted that the jazz guitars competed against all the "jazz bands" in this competition, so a second place win in this category is quite commendable! It must also be noted that the judges awarded Perry Cowdery an outstanding jazz soloist award . . . . one of only two such awards given at this competition!  Be sure to congratulate these students on a job well done!
