Spring Guitar Extravaganza
Dear Guitar families,
Westfield Guitar presents the 2012 "Spring Guitar Extravaganza" next Tuesday, May 22, at 7 PM in the WHS auditorium. All of the guitar groups will be featured. Please come out and support our students and enjoy their end of year performances! Invite your families and friends too! For intermission we will have a concession of baked goods, but we need your help!
Please send your cookies or brownies individually wrapped or packaged in small zip lock bags.No need to RSVP, just make sure your baked (or store bought) cookies are in the front lobby by 6:30 PM.
We need a few parents to do the following jobs:
- supervise students waiting to perform
- door monitors / ushers/ traffic directors...
If you can help with any of these jobs, please RSVP to Bonnie Cowdery. Students' call time is 6:30 P.M., and they should report in full concert dress. |
The guitar spring trip was a huge success!
I think the students had a great time despite the chilly rain at Busch Gardens yesterday! Our students were exceptionally respectful, well behaved and professional! It was fun being with them and observing them interact so well with each other and with the adults! Thanks to Mrs. Ciocco, Mrs. Cortez, Mr. Loso and Mr. Ludwig for being super chaperones and a lot of fun too! Thanks to Mrs. Drzemiecki for bringing Joe and Andrew to play with us! Thanks to the parents who contributed gas money for the chaperones/drivers. Most of all, thank you to our wonderful teacher and director, Mr. Hall! We do appreciate you!!!
Mr. Hall was quite pleased with the performances of all of our guitar groups. Here are the 2012 Virginia Beach Fiesta-Val results:
- WHS Concert Guitar Ensemble-1st Place Division IV; Superior Rating (highest possible)
- WHS Guitar II-III Ensemble-1st Place OPEN Division; Superior rating
- WHS String Jazz Combo-2nd Place Division IV; Superior Rating
- WHS Jazz Guitar Trio-1st Place OPEN Division; Superior Rating; Overall Festival Grand Champion Jazz Ensemble
- Outsanding jazz soloists-Perry Cowdery-guitar; Joe Drzemiecki-electric bass; Andrew Harrington-drum set
One judge gave this group a straight 100 with only one comment written across the page in inch high letters...something I've never seen before! His comment was, "WOW!" |

Message from the President
Dear Guitar Parents,
If your student is no longer participating in the guitar program, kindly send a reply to us indicating your request to be taken off of this distribution list.
The 2011-2012 guitar booster board has been working all summer to transition from last year's board and to update our guitar forms so that they will be ready for you to pick up at the Bulldog BBQ on Tuesday, August 30!
The Guitar Survival Guide is now available, put together by the Guitar Boosters. It contains information that will help you to know what is expected and needed from our parents, as well as students. Please read and fill out the entire booklet, and have your student return the enclosed gold form to me at school as soon as possible.
We look forward to working with you and Mr. Hall to help make this a great year for all of our students! We need your help! There will be opportunities for you to be involved all year, but the following two very important events are just right around the corner! Please print out this so that you have it as a reference!

Message from the Director
August 2010
Dear Guitar Families,
Welcome to our award winning Guitar Program! We have a number of performances, competitions and fundraising events planned for the 2011-2012 year! First, WHS is hosting the annual Bulldog BBQ on August 30th. All music groups (guitar, band, chorus and orchestra) participate in this event by providing volunteers for food sales. In turn, they receive a portion of the sales. We also will have our own information table set up in the gym hallway. If you can help, please contact Bonnie Cowdery, Guitar Booster President. We hope to see all of you there!
We have a very active guitar booster organization, and we look forward to your joining us! The basic $15.00 membership provides basic funds needed by the guitar program. Guitar memberships greater than $15.00 benefit the guitar program by providing equipment and greater musical opportunities for your student.
The next important event is Tag Day on Saturday, September 24th. This is our major fundraiser for the entire year! All Westfield High School music groups go door-to-door in the Westfield community asking for donations. Last year the total amount collected was approximately $23,000!!
